I searched this thread and didn't find anything specific

My home owners insurance went up $300 this year and is now close to $1300!!!
I have a $500 deductible and the dwelling is calculated at $400k.

Anyone else in the same boat with Amica?? Please share.
How much do you pay in Fairfax County?
Any suggestions for another insurance company?

I guess I will have to price shop and raise deductible possibly.

We have only invoked insurance once a few yrs ago for some minor storm damage

Make sure you are insuring just the value of the house and not the land.

I am with USAA and mine went up $200 on my premium that just renewed this month. I was sort of expecting it because my neighbor, with the exact same house, with USAA was showing me her policy a few months ago and I saw that mine was in the $600 range and hers was in the $800 range and we were trying to figure out why. Her policy had just renewed and mine was about to expire. So, I was right about my policy going up. It sure did.

That seems high. My house is valued at 375-400k and it's about $600/year (just renewed in August). Deductible is $1k though. It might be time to shop around.

Guys,

Shop around for other quotes. Insurance companies always give new customers a more competitive rate than existing customers. This is an industry that rewards those that move around. Most people don't reshop their insurance every 2 years.

My home is valued at 575k and my USAA policy is $620/yr with 1k deductible after all the policy discounts. Without the discounts it shows as $1,860/yr.

Thanks all of you.

The $1k deductible, shopping around is a good idea.

Any suggestions for what policy discounts we can get beyond:
deadbolts,
fire alarm
sprinklers

Not sure we want a security system but may consider.

We asked about alumni discounts, don't exist.

The $1K deductable is pretty much SOP, but even @ $500 that's an insane figure. I'd be shopping ASAP!
Good luck!

You can usually get a multi-line if you have a vehicle with them as well. I have State Farm and 2012 rate was lower than 2011. I don't remember if 2013 went up or down. You've piqued my curiosity so I'll have to look it up when I get home.
