For those who have been here for awhile, how long does it take VDOT to get to the interstates after a storm? Are they continually working during a storm? As you can probably tell not to familiar with snow and it's removal.

VDOT is already out there as are theor contractors. VDOT can't handle this kind of storm alone and need help. The problem with storms like this is that the equipment can't keep up with the snowfall so they are constantly running the roads but don't expect the roads to be cleared until well after the storm stops.

As Bigfoot24 said, VDOT does not wait until after a storm to clear the roads. Their trucks and contractors are out their during the storm. Just as it is easier to shovel walks/driveways several times during the storm instead of waiting until the storm's end, the same holds true for the roads. In addition, the roads need to be constantly be worked on for emergency vehicles, emergency personnel, etc.

They keep the interstates and primary roads under constant attack during snow, but don't expect secondary roads and especially neighborhoods to get much attention until the snow ends.....

The authorities do their best here, but everyone from the Midwest and Northeast will tell you that the snow removal situation here is noticeably different than in their more northerly hometowns. We just don't get enough snow to warrant that level of snow removal service.
