I just got back from my trip to Wegman's (Woodbridge area).

In many places, the secondary roads are down to bare pavement. Then you come upon places where there is about an inch of packed snow on the roads. Right now, with the sun, it's driveable without slipping, but what's it going to be like tomorrow morning? There is also TONS of standing water. Unbelievable amounts.

Then when I crossed over I-95 at Cardinal Drive, I could see that 95 South was all clear yet 95 Northbound only had one lane open and the other three were covered.

I'm thinking it will be a sheet of ice tomorrow (I leave at 5:20 a.m.). Leaving late is not an option for me because there is no parking after about 7:00 a.m. Probably even less since the top deck of the garage is unusable. Grrrrrr....

I totally agree. The commute in the morning will be treacherous because of the ice. And the commute home will be worse because heavy snow will be falling. Stay home if you can.

I can. I have tons of leave. But not much sanity left...

Just the constriction of travel lanes will make it a nightmare...I just went for a ride and even some main drags are down to 1 or 1-1/2 lanes. And forget the turn lanes.

There's still lots of white packed snow on the roads...do you think they ran out of salt? We are at the temps that that stuff really works well...we should be seeing a lot more pavement!

I'll bet the VDOT's snow removal budget it shot by now...or maybe it was even drained by the December storm. Bobby may have to whip out the credit card for this one (and hope it isn't "declined"!)...

VDOT budget was almost shot right before this one. They will definitely be way over budget but that happens.

I was wondering why I didn't see more salt use also. It seems like it would have taken care of those lanes that had clumps of packed snow on them. They are breaking up somewhat now, but by about 7:00 p.m. tonight will be frozen solid.

It wasn't too bad this morning leaving Springfield at 6:40am heading in to DC. The fact that there was a lot of snow still left on Edsall Rd., I-395 etc. helped as far as the ice, actually. But if they plow it down to the pavement today so that there are just ice sheets by the morning, I agree it could be bad news. Hopefully VDOT will try to treat the roads tonight...

I'm sure it helped that many people didn't go in today.

I was just wondering how the roads will be with a full load.

Was Wegman's fully stocked? We went to Safeway and they were out of bananas and potatoes etc. I am thinking I need to hit another grocery store before the next storm hits.

I can tell you that they will be a mess, based on how slow it was this morning with far fewer vehicles. Hopefully the Feds will get another couple of days off!

Maybe this will be the moment when we finally start taking telecommuting seriously.
