I am looking for a new church in the Ashburn/Leesburg/Sterling/Herndon area. I grew up Catholic but am not interested in attending a Catholic church. I tried an Episcopal church and was uncomfortable at how aggressive the pastor was trying to set up a home visit and calling us out during the service at our very first visit. I'd like to attend a church to see if I feel comfortable with it before being barraged with membership.

I'm mostly interested in Episcopal or Methodist churches but would consider others.

Thanks.

Interesting. My wife and I are what I call "holiday Episcopalians" and we've tried a few churches in the area, but we've never felt pressured to join or been called out. I'd just get a list in your area and try a few of them out and see what feels right.

Oh, and I have to: Do NOT TAUNT Happy Fun Ball.

Thanks for the info. We thought the same about the Episcopalians but it may have just been this specific church. I'm going to look for some churches a little further out of the geographic area.

I gotta go there as well: If Happy Fun Ball begins to smoke, get away immediately. Seek shelter and cover head.

You beat me to it. I converted to Methodist from Catholicism. I don't know many of the UMC's in NOVA, but Floris is at the top of my list of churches to check out when I move up there.

Ingredients of Happy Fun Ball include an unknown glowing substance which fell to Earth, presumably from outer space.

My brother is a pastor. New members are hard to come by nowadays and they want to make you feel comfortable and welcoming. He told me a simple solution is just tell the pastor you are casual churchgoers (i.e. X-mas and Easter) and that you prefer to reach out to them vs. they reach out to you. 99% of them will get it and then leave you alone. It won't hurt their feelings. They just don't want to be the pastor where you left because they weren't making an effort.
