Balducci's in McLean has VERY good pies -- also Randolph's Bakery in Arlington - although I find their cakes are better than their pies. Their cakes are OUTSTANDING!! And I second the vote forWegman's -- they do a VERY nice job on the pies.

Always been surprised Marie Callender's never made it back here.

Trader Joe's has some pretty good looking pies, though I've never eaten one. My wife bakes ours.

Mom's Apple Pie is great and has been featured on the Food Network. Otherwise I make my own because as it turns out pies are fairly easy to make.

The Pie Gourmet in Vienna is THE BEST! (Forgive me if someone else already post this.)

Seconded. They're pricey, but of the many pies I've bought since discovering the place a year ago, only one (the cherry) was anything less than amazing.

Cenan's bakery in Vienna also makes great pies at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Their pastries are amazing too, and cakes. Their rye bread is the best I've ever had. Real Brioche too.

I bake pies myself also but sometimes I don't. I'm the one that does ALL the cooking for the holidays for my family so sometimes it helps to buy them already made from someone else because I have so much other cooking to do.

I also agree that Costco has some pretty good pies. Boy, they used to sell a Caramel Apple Pie that was excellent but stopped making it.

I looked at the website for the Gourmet Pie in Vienna. The prices are high but I might check it out.

You realize don't you the pumpkins normally used for pies aren't the same as the type used for Jack-O-Lanterns?
