The Miller Beach section of Gary is very nice. Beautiful beach, cool people, affordable homes.

There are other areas of Lake County to live, and still be close to family.

I would recommend that.

Question for those who live in Miller Beach - where does one do their grocery shopping, pharmacy needs & all the other
day to day errands? Just curious.

I don't live their currently but visit often. There is a Walgreen's by Miller Station. There is a small boutique grocery store in the Miller Square commercial area in central Miller Beach.

Miller Beach Market Place

there is a slightly larger grocery store on US 20 the Key Market, think it has been renamed Miller K Market

Most Millerites work outside of Miller obviously and my friends go to Costco like many in the region. Those who work downtown have options to pick stuff up in the city before hopping on the South Shore. There is a Mariano's just a few blocks from the South Shore Randolph Street Station in Lakeshore East.

There is also a weekly farmer's market from Spring to Fall in Miller.

^^^^Interesting. Sounds like a food desert. Is there any talk of a real grocery store opening up close by?

key Market is a full service grocery store...and miller Beach Market Place will try to locate anything you want...and they deliver straight to your door. trust me, it's not a food desert. As I said, the vast majority of residents work in Chicago or elsewhere in the region and have just as much access to food as anyone else in NW Indiana.

There are several grocery stores in nearby Hobart.

There is plenty of shopping in Portage too.

And for what it's worth the dining option in Miller are growing. there is the upscale Miller Bakery Cafe. the booming new 18th Street Brewery apparently has very good food. A new bakery recently opened, as did a new restaurant cafe across the street from the famous Flamingo's. think it's more of a breakfast place. 444 Grill has a large menu but is famous for Carribean fare. miller Pizza company does stuffed, deep dish and thin pizzas, all vey good.

in other words, it's not a food desert.
