I am a loft dweller and soon-to-be Oahu resident. Are there any lofts (to live not work) in HNL or the surrounding areas? My research has only listed the Vanguard Lofts which is essentially a marketing tool for a condo with high ceilings. Not what I consider a loft. Most are found in converted warehouses or older buildings. I know it is a long shot, considering that space is valued at a premium price in Hawaii. Chinatown had some, but geared for artist galleries, not for residential use. There has got to be a loft(s) somewhere? Mahalo.
This is the closest to a loft in Honolulu except for the recently constructed "lofts" in Waikiki that I know of. These really aren't lofts but two story townhouses with the master open to the living room below. They are nice and have held value very well.
Because of the mild climate most old industrial buildings were more quansat type construction. I reallly haven't kept up with Chinatown but I believe most structures there are two story brick. I would have a hard time living there but I love the first Fridays! New construction in Honolulu is pretty much limited to hi-rise.
