My wife is offered a job at university of hawaii at manoa. we just arrived here yesterday and we are looking to rent an apartment/condo/house near the university. House rent might be too expensive, so apartment/condo might be the choice for us (no kids) and we want a 2 bedroom. Does anyone know which area/community is good? any suggestions? and what's the price range for 2 bedroom apartment/condo? Thanks a lot!

The university has housing for profs. I would check that out first.

hawaii apts/housing for rent classifieds "pualei circle" - craigslist=

Pualei Circle is nice and within walking distance to the beach. I have a ten year tenant there and a UH prof lives above them. Seems like the rent range is $1600 to $3,000.

And a super long waiting list to get into it, unfortunately.

Lots of us are living in Makiki / Punchbowl area. Several in Ala Moana / Kakaako area.

If you don't mind a commute, Kailua is a popular place for faculty to live.

For rent: think $1700 and up for a decent 2 bedroom in those areas. If you can swing a one bedroom, you can get it a fair bit cheaper.

And welcome to UH! I hope you & your wife like it here.
