I am relocating for my job with Home Depot. It seems to be very hard to find some place affordable to rent for me and my little small dog. Every place seem so expensive. Still Looking...

Try checking houses to share, although that's hard with the dog. Most likely you aren't going to find affordable housing with a job in retail unless you're sharing rent with someone or in a small apartment which doesn't seem all that fair to the dog, but that's Oahu. And you've already started the paperwork on bringing the dog into the state, right?

I suspect on a Home Depot salary you'll need at least a few roommates or something dumpy/awful commute.

Where is the location of the Home Depot you are relocating too for your job?
Price makes a difference the closer to downtown for apartment rentals!

Sadly, the dog may turn out to be a bigger hurdle than the rental prices. You should check for individuals that have a mother in law apt on their home vs rental agencies.

A quick search on oahu craigslist shows that when you look under housing/apts, the number of available units drops from 2500 to 1000 when you check the box "dog ok". At that point, when you set the little deal at the top right to show listings in ascending price order, you start around $700-$800 and go up. There are a few studios around that price that are pet friendly. Probably all students. I was attracted to the Hippie Hut, but you would have to share a studio apt w/ a young student who is a bit of a clothes horse. She looks like a fun roomie, and your dog could play with her dog.

Honobob: what is the sq footage of your unit ? And building ? From what I've seen lately, that sounds like a pretty good reflection of what you can find in Waikiki right now at the $1,800 price.
