My dad fell and bruised his back. He was in the hospital for a couple of days. I think he stiffened up because they wouldn't let him walk. He is having difficulty getting out of bed. He's obese, so having me wrestle him out of bed probably isn't the best option.

I am wondering if anyone knows of a good respite care place in Marion County. Respite care, in case people don't know, is temporary assisted living for people who are recovering from illnesses and injuries. I might have to send him off for a week or two.

Hoarse, I don't personally know of any because I've not been here long enough and haven't had a need, but here are some resources that might be able to point you in the right direction:

Marion Senior Services Ocala, Florida

https://www.agingcare.com/local/mari...a-home-care-fl

https://agingresources.org/

Elderly Assistance Choices Designed for Ocala, FL Senior Citizens

Florida Department of Elder Affairs - Programs and Services

I hope this helps. Good luck and my thoughts are with you.

Good idea, rjm1cc. Obvious, but overlooked.

There a definitely facilities available, but I can't recall any names. I know of one site close to the Paddock Mall that a now deceased friend had been in more than once. kmarc's links are an excellent source of information. I wish you and your father the best during these difficult times.

I think there's a couple over here off 200 by On Top of The World, I don't know the names, but I think one is Brookdale Senior Living. I do know that there are some nursing homes that have short stay arrangements for the purpose that Hoarse is looking for. It's called "rehab care". I usually associate "respite care" with people who fill in for the primary caregivers of those who have Alzheimer's and various disabilities, like MS, etc. When we were looking for care for my mother years ago, up north, there was a place that was listed as a nursing home, but it also provided short stay rehab care.

I think that one of the facilities kmarc is referring to is in Timber Ridge.

Thanks for the suggestions. He seems to be loosening up now, so maybe I have more time to work on this.

Yep, part of what you're seeing when he tightens up is the body's resistance to a fall or shock to the injured area, an effort on the part of the body to prevent it from happening again. He'll loosen up if he doesn't feel that he will fall again.

I don't know what you're doing for the bruised back, but if I may offer a little suggestion, those stick-on TENS therapy units from Icy Hot for the back are awesome. Inexpensive and they relieve the pain immediately, or at least they do for me. I'd give you a link, but I can't advertise them in the public forum. Let me know if you want me to PM you with the link. My bub uses them, too, and they work for him and he's resistant to almost everything, lol.

Thank you.

We have a doctor's appointment coming up, and I plan to find out exactly how many goodies Medicare will splurge for.
