Obama is taking all the credit for Ohio's improvements, but what about your Republican governor Kasich's efforts? Found this article in the New York Times today. Just curious to hear what those who live in Ohio think.

Quote:
It was a Monday afternoon in July. Kasich had started out his day at a predominantly African-American church in Cleveland, where he signed a bill making it easier for ex-felons to get work.
Did Barack Obama Save Ohio?

He certainly has not hurt Ohio, no matter what the wingnuts would have you believe. Had the auto industry not been helped, this state would be in big trouble.

This state was in big trouble and yes we have an auto industry in Ohio its called Honda... it was the taxpayers that helped the Unionized Auto industry not Obama and they are going under again
Kasich is our turn around balanced the books making Ohio attractive to business again not Obama.

I think it was more the return of manufacturing combined with an improved auto industry, and an overall lessening of business restrictions. Some can be attributed to Obama, some to just the changing global economy. I'm reluctant, though, to give Kasich much credit. He may have helped with the last, but it really hasn't attracted a ton of new jobs/businesses outside of manufacturing that was already returning anyway.

Apparently your knowledge of Ohio is pretty limited then. It doesn't appear that you appreciate how bad the damage would be if action wasn't taken to help the American auto industry.

Hi all--

Given that John Kasich balanced the budget by - gasp! - cutting spending rather than raising taxes (see: California, Illinois, etc.), yes, I do give credit to Kasich for promoting economic growth. I believe - as Kasich believes - that Ohio is facing headwinds from the federal government.

When Ohio scuppered the high speed rail from Cincinnati to Cleveland that nobody would have ridden anyway, Kasich went to lobby to use the Federal dollars for more pressing transportation needs. But the Federal government said no, we'll find someone else to waste the money instead. (So California is building a high speed rail from Fresno to Bakersfield.)

To give us an Ohio equivalent, imagine building a high speed rail line from Lima to Mansfield and expecting that millions upon millions would eagerly give up their cars, hop on a train which is three times as expensive, and... get stranded in downtown Mansfield because there is no way to get around without a car once you get there.

Kasich "balanced" the budget by deferring state costs onto counties and municipalities. Which, of course, you are now paying for anyway out of your own pocket directly to the county and/or municipality. Your state taxes weren't cut and your local taxes and mandatory fees (a nice way of saying tax) went up. In one year, my neighbors and I saw a $500 increase in taxes and fees. Diebold, American Greetings, and several other corporations got millions in tax credits. Kasich has done little else other than paddle a canoe downstream.

There are several thousand people working at GM, Ford, and Chrysler who would beg to differ with you.

The President provided for and pushed for loans which stabilized the industry. Those loans have almost been fully repaid. GM, Ford, and Chrysler are doing well. So, how you feel anyone is "going under" is simply another tribute to your own ignorance.

All he's done is push state costs back on the counties and municipalities while giving credits to companies that were already here.

The auto company loans saved (and even spurred) several hundreds of thousands of jobs.

But, stating the obvious to those of your ilk is like trying to explain simple math to a piglet... a futile gesture. So, corporations are people, get on the bus or we'll run you over, and get off my lawn...
