My opinion is if you are a bureaucrat, and you don't actually want to do anything to improve the sorry state of affairs in Ohio, you do things like change licence plates. I call it the "fixing what isn't broken" syndrome.

I wondered why Ohio had not really changed ours that much. We still have the traditional blue, red and white. I look at PA's and they have many different ones. Michigan's new ones are another ugly set from their ugly blue. I would like something in Ohio's plate with maybe Lake Erie on one end with the Cleveland skyline, the SE part of the state and the maybe a picture of Hocking Hills State Park, and maybe our capitol building in the middle. Just due to the fact that Ohio has so many different landscapes from one part of the state to the next.

Why don't they show the Cuyahoga river on fire? How about rare coins compliments of Bob Taft? Oh wait, I know... The DIRECTION CARD!!!!! That is an Ohio favorite!

Excellent post, Chevalierkt! The only thing I'd like to add is that OH military veterans' plates are no extra charge (there is, however, an extra charge to get a 6-character "vanity" inscription added to your plate, such as the "CRW CHF" I had on mine awhile back)
