What does Ohio think of Southwest Ohio? (Cincy, dayton....ect. (Columbus: how much, employment)

Just curious what cities like Cleveland, Columbus and other cities think of Southwest Ohio like Dayton and Cincy. Before you post please post where you are from. Here is a little bit of criteria. Also the criteria below is not required in each post you may say whatever you want about souhwest ohio

I have spent much time in all parts of Ohio. Probably NW Ohio is the area I've spent the least in, but for SW Ohio:

I live in Dayton for 2 years and often visit Cincinnati. I have spent time in the suburbs between the two, as well. I find SW Ohio to be a scenic and pretty part of the state. The region, overall, has a more conservative feel than the rest of the state. Many seem to have more of a drawl when speaking.

I grew up in Youngstown and went to college at Ohio University down in Athens.

Would you ever consider living in southwest Ohio. Why or why not?
No. I find it too conservative and Southern-esque. Plus, in my field of advertising, there aren't too many agencies there, although there are a lot of marketing jobs with all the companies headquartered in Cincinnati.

Conservative. Southern.

Too much conservative thinking and religious right-wingers.

Does southwest Ohio fit your lifestyle why or why not?
Not at all. If you couldn't tell by now, I'm pretty liberal. IMO Northeast Ohio is the best part of the state by far. Southern Ohio is too conservative and Columbus is too generic. SW Ohio seems like it has a lot more in common with Kentucky or Indiana than it does Northern Ohio.

Is their more positives or negatives?
Definitely negatives.

I went to school with people from all over the state, and many from out-of-state as well. One thing I noticed whenever we talked about different cities is that the only people who said they liked Cincinnati were the people who were from SW Ohio. Nobody outside the area said they liked it. You had people saying they liked Cleveland or Columbus or Pittsburgh despite not living there, but no outsiders thought of Cincinnati as a nice place.

My impression that people from Cincinnati act like it's not part of Ohio. Like they live in their own state or something.

Don't get that impression from Daytonites.

Like both cities and the area in general.

Would you ever consider living in southwest Ohio. Why or why not? - Maybe. Many things would have to happen to make me live there since all my friends, family, etc. are in Cleveland. I do like visiting though.

southwest ohio is great..cincinnati is the most beautiful city landscape in ohio,parts of old cincy perhaps think of themselves as a seperate entity from the rest of ohio but the suburbs like mason etc are definitely ohio through and through .you could take mason,centerville and say hilliard and they all seem like they are the same city etc.bland ohio suburbs but nice places to live.for the most part the suburbs..where most ppl live in cincy ,cbus and dayton all have the same feel,even indianapolis ..columbus more west virginia,cincy a little kentucky and dayton is more western ohio like lima and sidney.northeast ohio seems different..more like pittsburgh,buffalo etc..

That was my impression as well, after moving to Ohio to attend the University of Dayton, relocating to Cleveland for a few years after graduation, and then moving to Cincinnati. Granted, this was more than a few years ago, but things haven't changed too much in the Cincinnati view of Ohio. I'd watch the evening news and begin to wonder if Cincinnati wasn't in Kentucky instead of Ohio.

Columbus is mentioned only if Ohio State is having a winning football season, or if some money is needed from the state for a local highway or development project. Not too many people realize that Lake Erie has sandy beaches, and that their skin won't flake off if they swim in the water, although they may have heard of Put-in-Bay. Cleveland is considered a stinking toxic dump populated with unemployed steel and auto workers with funny Slavic last names, and is criticized most vehemently by people who have never been there. Hocking Hills is where you go if you want to hike in the woods, but isn't Kentucky nicer?

I love Cincinnati, and hope to move back someday. It took me only about eight or nine years to feel like I belonged there (resistance is futile ), in contrast to moving to Dayton or Cleveland, where I immediately felt at home. Cincinnati is not the most provincial place on Earth (that honor goes to New York City), but its vision rarely extends beyond the I-275 loop.

In contrast, the people I knew/know in Cleveland and Columbus and elsewhere throughout the state think Cincinnati is an unusual and interesting city and a fun place to visit.

I've lived in North-Central Ohio and in Cleveland and Cleveland Heights. I'm in Madison, Wisconsin at the moment but that won't be permanent.

If I land a job in Southwest Ohio when I'm done with school, I'd move there in a heartbeat (assuming I didn't get a better offer/career path somewhere else). I do prefer the Midwest over living in another part of the country, but more than anything else, it's job-driven at this point.

I'm not sure how much I'd love to live someplace rural at the moment, but Cincinnati is a really cool city with a ton of history. One of the things I really miss about Cleveland/Cleveland Heights living in Madison, WI is the lack of interesting neighborhoods. Cincinnati would be a good place for me too in the same way as Cleveland. I'm not sure how interesting the rest of SW Ohio would be outside of Cincinnati. Perhaps if I were 10 years older and had children the other parts would be more attractive. I don't know a ton about living in the City of Dayton, though it does have a number of suburbs that offer good amenities. Still, I'd rather move back to Cleveland than either, simply because I have roots there but I certainly wouldn't rule out Southwest Ohio.

Maybe some people would only live in politically homogenous areas that agree with them (in which case some parts of SW Ohio could work well for you regardless of ideology), but I've largely found that you can find nice people anywhere and mean people anywhere whether they agree with you or not. Heck, I'm a conservative who just moved from Cleveland Heights to Madison. In any city you find what you want to find.

Currently residing in Southwest Ohio. Moved from Northern Ohio to go to college down here and the area really grew on me and I ended up staying after I graduated. Cincinnati has tons on history & character and the people are mostly friendly and easygoing. Personally I like the Cincinnati area much better than Northern Ohio mostly due to the friendlyness of the people which I felt was missing whenever I was in Cleveland. I'm also a libertarian leaning conservative so the politics of Southwest Ohio are definately closer to my own than the Socialist Republic of Cuyahoga County.

They could use more employment options. I realize that Cincinnati and Columbus have better economic prospects than most rust belt cities but they could definately use more jobs as could most Midwest cities. I don't have any real negatives for the area.

Yes, quite a few affordable options on where to live ranging from urban to suburban. Pleasant people and plenty of entertainment options ranging from sports, museums, parks, and etc. If you cannot find enough to do then you are not looking hard enough.
