An infusion next season of highly ranked, in-state defensive talent bodes well for Ohio State football in incoming years. The Buckeyes' defensive woes partially have been attributable to injuries in very thin linebacker and secondary rooms. Five-star Sonny Styles has reclassified to the 2022 class and will enroll in the summer of 2022.

Freshman Denzel Burke was Ohio State's top cornerback this season, so it's possible Sonny Styles and the other Ohioans will be impactful players as early as next season.

With Styles' reclassification, Ohio State is second to only Alabama in the average score of its 2022 recruits.

Terrance Brooks from Texas and Ryan Turner from Florida are two other four-star cornerback commits in the 2022 Buckeyes recruiting class.

Default Luke Fickell?

A rumor about Ryan Day's agent, Trace Armstrong, taking over as GM for the Chicago Bears and bringing Ryan Day with him as the Bears' new head coach, was repeated on the NFL Today show before the Browns game.

Ryan Day can't be a happy camper this morning as this rumor leaks right before early signing day. And given Day's history in the NFL, there may be more than just smoke here. Was Armstrong, without Day's permission, trying to position Day for a big raise at Ohio State? On NFL Today, the statement was that Armstrong had been shopping Day for an NFL head coaching job for the last few years!!! This story will not be easily and quickly dismissed, unless Day terminates Armstrong as his agent after determining the veracity of the report that Armstrong has been seeking for a few years an NFL head coaching job for Day; if Day keeps Armstrong as his agent, it will greatly tarnish Day's recruiting chomps IMO.

Prior to this leak, Day had said that Ohio State was his dream job and he had no interest in any other head coaching job. Is this true, or did Day know that Armstrong was shopping him for an NFL head coach gig? This story has NOT been put to bed.

Would Luke Fickell be the prohibitive favorite to take over the head coaching job if Day leaves for the NFL? What would happen to the Ohio State QB room, as Day was the big magnet at Ohio State for top level QBs given Day's QB whispering pedigree, including his NFL experience?

Will this be another year from hell for the Buckeyes football program???

These stories are not good for Ohio State recruiting efforts, especially of quarterbacks and receivers.

<<Armstrong, who played defensive end for the Bears from 1989-94 and has remained close to the franchise as a prominent alumnus, is a huge proponent of Ohio State coach Ryan Day, league sources said, and Day has been open to considering NFL possibilities in recent years.>>

If Day remains silent, he admits the reports are accurate and will suffer the consequences.

For those prone to conspiracy theories, Jason La Confora, the author of this report, once worked for The Detroit Free Press.... However, his university degree reportedly iis from Syracuse, not Michigan or any other Big Ten school.

BTW, it would be unlikely IMO that Ohio State is interested in rehiring Urban Meyer, given his troubles with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the twerking incident at a Columbus bar earlier this fall.

*Two out of his 20 years of coaching he coached in the NFL as a QB coach under his mentor, Chip Kelly.

*He just signed a new DC who said he'd only come if Day were to stay.

*Signing day right around the corner. Dirty recruiting tricks to throw out rumors like this?

*Ohio State has had only HOF and future HOF head coaches for 75 years. Keep dreaming of their demise.

*Confora is a known hack.

*What does Day have to do with WRs? That's all Hartline. The most NFL production they've produced, and it's all Hartline, and this is all he wants to do.

*Ohio State will pay more than anyone in the NFL. Day could use the NFL offseason with all the openings, have talks, and use it as leverage to become the highest paid football coach. Smart.
