Hello all!
I'm thinking about moving out pretty soon and I am trying to find the best apartments for me.I make an awesome 7.85 an hour and 330 goes towards my car a month. I don't know how to calculate what that leaves me with but that's why I am posting this.

What apartments do you all think I can afford? Location wise I would like to stay in the OK metro. Maybe some rural areas as well.

Thank you for your time!

Well you really shouldn't spend more than 1/3 of your after tax income on housing, but obviously that could be more or less depending on your other expenses. Assuming you work 40 hrs/week that comes out to 350/month. Even in a cheap place like OKC, its going to be tough getting a place that low that isn't in a complete dump or in the middle of nowhere. Have you though about renting a room or garage apartment? There should be some decent ones in your price range.

I think a garage apartment would be fantastic really. I,very been keeping an eye out on Craigslist but I haven't found anything just yet. And I've rented a room before and had some bad luck. I would like to avoid something like that.

Try padmapper.com, and refine the search to meet your criteria.

Generally, you don't want to exceed 25% of your monthly income after taxes to include utilities. Most apartment management companies will not rent to someone that exceeds 33% of their income (pre-tax). They may be able to rent to you if you increase your security deposit.

Wow. I'd ditch the car and buy a beater. Between car payments and full coverage insurance, you can't afford anything else.
