Default OKC, Tulsa, or Sioux Falls. Tornadoes?

Howdy, folks,

As referenced, I'm interested in OKC, Tulsa, or Sioux Falls. Historic neighborhoods, art/gallery scene, and safety are of particular interest. I can deal with cold better than humidity. But I have to admit, I'm scared to death of tornadoes. Do I worry too much?

Overall, what places does everyone like best, and why?

Thanks for your time.

Don't know Sioux Falls. I could be happy in both Tulsa and OKC. Tulsa has a decent arts community, but contemporary painting and sculpting is limited. But with a respected ballet, philharmonic, several excellent little theaters, and two world class museums, the classical arts are great. OKC has a more dynamic community of paint and sculpture artists. Both have good local restaurants, both have way too many chain restaurants, both have several casinos, complete with hotels and restaurants. Both have excellent Native American events. Both have strong music roots.

Here are some nice pictures of downtown OKC and some historic neighborhoods. I didn't take these pictures.

Yes, you do worry too much about tornadoes. You will probably never see one or be in one.

Nice pics...

OKC looks a LOT nicer and cleaner than Boston.

Downtown OKC really does look clean and nice these days. It is busy and has some life going on, but you don't feel like you are in a sea of humanity like Chicago. I haven't ever been to Boston.

I can't wait to see for myself.

As far as Boston goes, you're not missing much.
It's relatively dirty and the traffic is insane.
I hope to never have to go there again.

M.

Actually, your fear of tornadoes is not unfounded. I am a survivor of the big may 3 1999 tornado, and every year the threat of tornadoes is something you will have to deal with. If you have a shelter and a good storm radio its no big, but they are a somewhat regular occurrence...especially in the springtime. This is not said to propagate fear, and Oklahoma can be a great place to live, but it should be taken into consideration or at least acknowledged.

A healthy respect for tornadoes is good, spending time worrying about them is not. Just know where the shelters are and keep an eye (or an ear) to the weather.
