Husband is retired cop and I am retired prison psychologist, so criminals of any type better look out, he will hold them at gun point while I analyze them, LOL. We've lived 7 miles from a town of 11,000 for 35 years. Really really tired of driving 15 miles round trip to go out to eat. Lived out here to get away from the troubled people, and very busy professions. Probably look first in Grove or no more than 2 miles from town. Where we live now, used to ice storms, tornadoes, our electric goes out, intenet slow etc. but the worst is the snow and bitter cold winters. He's 65 and I'm 64, want easier life than upkeep on our 14 acres and old house. Raised horses, trained baby horses for 30 years. Grove was peaceful, friendly no pretense people. That's what happens when you are old I guess, no pretense. Want new house, little upkeep, little distance to town on the lake. Water is so calming. Budget 250 to 350 so should find something. Going to look for some horse stable that will rent one to me, or trade for grooming or riding lessons. Probably be able to find that too. Want company of old folks, those who been there, done that, and now just want to talk, play. Also been thinking of starting club called NotDeadYet Club. LOL. By that I think there are lots of us old folks with various talents going to waste, but us old folks can't quite handle the schedule we used to have. So it would be a place to meet, talk, drink coffee, play cards, trade lies, and help the poor or others with our ablilities. Should be bunch of ex-professional people there with huge variety of talents. What do you think of that idea? Remember no pretense, if you think it is dumb idea, please say so. Think I will post this publicly too on the forum. Have a good day.

LOL. I love that saying! Welcome to the OK forum thread. I work closely with our prison psychologist, so I KNOW you are happy to be retired. Good luck with your relocation. Plenty of realtors on CDF, you should find some good leads there as far as realtors.

That's interesting that you work with prison psych. But I worked in a minimum prison, mental health prior to that and in drug abuse clinic too. I loved my job, we had a great team. Believe it or not the prisoners were the best clients i ever had, they at least knew something was wrong with them LOL. Also the team had great results, some programs had a 96% success rate, by that I mean that percent of those prisoners didn't return to prison again. I learned a lot from them.

The NotDeadYet Club is for us oldtimers who still have talent if not the energy we used to have, lol. Probably lots of people who could use free legal advice, landscaping, plumbing etc. Give us some usefullness in our old age, without the having to do it all the time plugged into it.

I got a whole list of houses to look at, found on realtor internet sites. Ought to keep us plenty busy while we are there, although I will have to take time out to go to the casinos, lol.

I am at a minimum prison. We have one psych and one newbie counselor. The counselor has had to wise up quite a bit. A LOT of MH-B1 & 2's in our system. Funny, I also worked in a drug program at a medium.

What state are you coming from? I suggest you DM Goodpasture as he dabbles in the realty area. I don't know much about the northeastern part of the state. But everywhere is pretty much horse country in OK. We are rural and four out of the five neighbors are horse owners. They get into our pasture a lot too.

They fertilize the grass! Actually, only one neighbor is bad about letting his horses stray. It was a constant battle a couple of years ago.

We have about 5 deer that are always right next to the house and across the road. Every night, the creep up and get into the area right behind our house because the grass there is very tall and thick. Don used to have an appaloosa at one time, and it is always a draw for grazers.

redbird, thanks for the tips, sent private im to GoodPasture. AT the prison I worked in , there were about 7 "counselors". The counselors jobs were to inform inmates about good time, release date etc. They had no MH experience at all. I was the only psych and outnumbered 1200 to 1. So I started suggesting to counselors that they could do a group of some kind, took me two or three years before the warden and they did it. Each one of them had some interest in some part of the psych field. one did parenting training, one did Vets. LOL, took a lot off my workload but those untrained, un-educated counselors ended up doing one "heck" of a job. Their personal satisfaction went up enormously too. Now 10 years later, one is a Assistant Director of Illinois Corrections, another a warden, another clinical supervisor. Everyone grew out of the experience and lots of inmates benefited as well.

Now slowed down, old horse injury to my knee crippled me for 12 years until finally a surgeon replaced it last Oct. Had to give up horses, couldn't move very fast and that can get you killed by a horse. So now I miss horses so bad. Don't want the everyday work anymore but want to smell them and groom them and maybe ride again if the knee keeps getting better.

Visited Grove 2 years ago and went all the way to Broken Bow looking at country and houses. Thought it would be Broken Bow at first, but hubbie and I both really just liked Grove's atmosphere so much better, and want to live directly on a lake. I like OK, loved OKC for the food and the horse activities, but not the country there, too dry and flat. Visted Texas too, but the people we met and atmosphere was too, um, not nice. Like the western people, no BS, practical people, self assured for the most part.
Speaking of horses getting out and the neighbors; we had 5 foot woven wire fence and they jumped it, 5 or 6 of em including our stallion. Guess where they made a beeline for? 1/4 mile down the road to our neighbor who had just put in a brand new, weed free, beautiful lawn! Had been raining the day before so guess how many deep hoof prints were in that new beautiful lawn, oh my. I about died on the spot. Sure was a good neighbor, he said no problem. Oh my oh my.

Yes, I can relate. Our beloved DOC is doing away with the counselor positions to save money. But our Psych is a great person. Love him to death because all the whiney butts can be sent to him to "resolve issues".

If you are in the northeastern OK and want to make an easy $100/hour, we know someone BEGGING for someone to run one hour group sessions. She left DOC and is now contracting out to run SOT's in the northeast OK area. But she cannot keep up with the work.

Funny, our psych has a horse too. Must be in the DNA or something, eh? Good luck and keep in touch.

Have to ask - what is SOT? Was able to follow the rest, but you lost me there <grin>. I have also worked in the prison system as a teacher and counselor. Have horses and mules and live in NE Oklahoma... Good job with the groups Bugqueen. They are a great counseling tool and one of my favorites. Good luck in finding your place.
