Why is that when they are already affiliated with the KC Royals as a farm club?

Brad,

Do you know that for a fact? Or are you making an assumption? It does seem a bit odd to me considering they are KC's farm team. On the other hand, I'm not really sure how that arrangement works as the farm team is independently owned.

Nevertheless, renaming the team is fine with me. The Golden Spikes wasn't all that bad. But to me "Storm Chasers" just sounds stupid. It just doesn't have a ring to it and on top of that there is no easily identifiable mascot. I would have much preferred the Royals over the Storm Chasers. It just makes them sound even more rinky dink.

At least the Royal is a bear... Something real.... Not some green humanoid blob with a horn for a nose.

I'm sure the Royals name is Trademarked.

Looking at the OWH article and how it discussed the branding firm's role in the renaming, I'm curious if the Stormchasers wasn't already picked out but they instituted a sham voting process to make everything seem fair.

Not that I don't like "Omaha" in the name but it seems a bit odd it's still has Omaha in the name when technically the team isn't even in the city anymore. Why isn't Papillion/La Vista (forgot which city got it) throwing a fit?

I guess Storm Chasers is better than Butterflies or Bugeaters.

The New York Giants or New York Jets technically aren't in New York since their home stadium is in New Jersey and nobody seems to mind.

Yet everyone in Anaheim/Orange County, CA despises the owner of the Los Angeles Angels (of Anaheim) because LA is in the name.

I know it for a fact. KC has the name trademarked and Omaha must pay them to use it for everything.

Brad is right.

It was in the OWH article that the Omaha Royals have to give a cut to the KC Royals for every use of "Royals" in merchandising.

Oh snap, I wonder if I have to pay a royalty to the Royals now...
