Does anyone have any information about the neighborhoods located above Carter Lake and along East Fort Street? This section of the city looks like it comes from another era, especially since many of the roads are not paved. Some of the houses are cute and some look run down and not so cute. It also looks like there are lots where homes once stood that are now gone. I never see any reports of crime in the area, nor do I ever hear much about it at all, in fact. I guess I’m just curious because, although it is close to North Omaha, it is apparently detached from the more crime-ridden areas and seems like it should be considered a more desirable location, given the proximity to downtown and the lake.

Is this area made up mostly of senior citizens? Renters or home owners? I wonder if any of them would like to see improved infrastructure, or do they like the isolated nature of their location? Is that area prone to flooding or airplane noise? I’m just trying to think of a reason why this location hasn’t become part of the growth and redevelopment the city has enjoyed.

I can't ever really recall going up there. I'll check it out on Bing Map's Bird's Eye View though.

I'm familiar with that entire area. There is crime there, I see it on the news sometimes. This one guy they interviewed for a crazy neighbor that had to be arrested and put in a mental hospital said that this kind of stuff doesn't happen here much and that most people keep to themselves. I do suspect that the majority of the people that live there are retired and have been there for decades. With all the noise of the city traffic around, I don't think that airport noise is a big factor.

Thanks for the info

It just seems like such a sad, depressed neighborhood, despite the potentially optimistic location. When you look at the homes for sale in the area, most fall between $30-$40k, while the Carter Lake side has large, newer homes at $300k+ and smaller 2 bed-1 bath homes between $100-$150k.
