Hi! I've been looking at real estate websites and haven't seen any houses in the Omaha area with a swimming pool. Does anyone in the area have a pool or is it very rare? Thanks!

There are pools, but not as common as you would find in climates that have less than 4 seasons or real long hot seasons....

Default To swim or not to swim...

Because of the variance in the weather here pools are more rare than you would find in lets say Dallas. We have four very distinct seasons...most years. They usually last about the same amount of time from year to year however, this year winter ran very long and it still gets down into the low to mid sixties at night. We turned on the AC for the first time in the middle of June!! The swimming season here is relatively short lasting maybe 4 to 5 months if you are lucky.
Also with the housing the way it is, it has been mentioned that having a house without a pool can make it more attractive to buyers who are looking for a lower maintainace property and I know of a couple that had the house on the market for so long that they filled it in and it sold in a month. That being said two houses up the block have just put in huge pools in their backyards within the last year with the latest being last week. Go figure.
Anyways I'm not sure where in town you are looking but I believe that the further west you go, the more likely it is that you will find pools due to the higher income area.
Good luck with your search and let me know if this helps or if you have more questions!

i know a family friend in harvey oaks who has a out door pool the he puts a large glass type dome over to make it indoor. I dont know how much this would cost but it seems to work very well for him.

Do they remove the dome during the summer?

Default ..

There are houses with swimming pools, but these guys are right when it comes to climate..

Having a pool in Omaha is okay and it will work well for you, but the thing is that in places like texas, nevada, florida and etc where it is excruciatingly hot for long periods of the year, the pool is almost a necessity lol..

Many people here just choose not to have a pool, if the climate was a hot climate, then you would see many more people with them.. The people here are certainly not short on cash its just a choice..

Actually, glass enclosed rooms with pools are fairly common in parts of Florida - not usually domed, usually flat or angled - so maybe the person in Harvey Oaks saw one there (while he was trying to get out of the excruciating heat LOL).

There are some houses with pools in Omaha, but they are not as likely to be found there as in warmer climes. Some areas do have nice community pools to be enjoyed in the summer in Omaha, plus some of the fitness centers do have large indoor pools to be used year-round.
