Also, if you actually need to drive out of town, you can always rent a car. For several years, I've driven an EXTREMELY cheap older car as my daily beater. But if I want to do any traveling, I simply head over to Hertz or Enterprise. They run half-price weekend specials from Thursday through Tuesday. Some time ago, I rented a Stratus for $15.99 per day, with unlimited mileage. Beats the heck out of $500 per month car payments.

I need to get a new bike. I do see a lot more bike commuters now from even a year ago. They are a brave bunch.

A street car/light rail would be nice, probably best from east to west on or around Dodge St, maybe from the waterfront to westroads or maybe even all the way up west Dodge. That would probably get the most use. If not, starting slow from the airport to the qwest center to the old market to the zoo or something.

i was bike commuting somebody almost nailed me bout 2 months ago at an intersection. the bad part was the lack of remorse. i put the bike back in the shed and got back in the car. all my bike commuter friends got screws and plates in their bodies.

I've got a good friend who rides his bike to work and back every day, except on the coldest and/or wettest day of the year. He commutes about 5 miles one way.
Unfortunately you're right. The greatest hazard to cyclists is NOT the weather, or distance.

Though it might not be Phase 1, I do think a streetcar clear out to West Dodge (180th Street) could be a VERY good thing. And I do think the width of the streets could accommodate it.

Eventually im sure they would have to do that. I think the key to LR/Street car's success will depend on getting people to jobs.
