I'm thinking of buying a home in the north end of Omaha. Is there a flooding 'problem' in Omaha?

No, not really. For roughly 95% of the homes in Omaha flooding will never be a concern less we see apocalypse type events, at which point flooding will probably be the least of your worries.

There was a time back in the early 90's when we had a flood that covered alot of the Freedom Park area, but that is not a developed area and few if any homes were effected from what I can recall.

If you can give us a relative address of this house you're looking at I or someone else can tell you if it would even be a concern for you.

Other than a few select spots near saddle creek rd. (42nd Dodge), I've never heard of any real flooding. Even then people are just get some water damage in their basements after a strong storm.

You mentioned the north end (really North Omaha) - depending on where, most of the problem areas for flooding are in north omaha. If it's up in the hills, you should be fine.

Some of the sewer system in North O is not to great and is in need of replacing, so you might have some issues with sewer backups.

I'd say that depends on if you were thinking about West or East. The homes in the northwest are newer and nicer, and most seem to be on higher ground. I know a few people that have sump pumps just in case, but flooding isn't something I'd give a second thought to.

As long as you buy a house on top of a hill you should be fine.
