Somewhere in Los Angeles proper (west LA) or county.

Huntington Harbour, Seal Beach, Los Alamitos will probably be closest to what you want. I would highly recommend Seal Beach.

You can also look at Cypress and West Garden Grove.

Also, suggestions on private schools in the area would be helpful as well!

Thank You!!!
Buying or renting? What is your budget?
Where is your job?

A person's political/social leanings are in the noise as compared to housing budget and job location as far as determining where to live and what type housing they will have.

Laguna Beach sounds like the perfect fit for you. But I'd spend the money on housing (which can be costly in any "beach" city in So Cal) instead of private school for your 4 year old.

If you have it to burn, well, I recommend Montessori. There are many out here, and my 4 year old has loved his experience. Next year he'll be going on to public Kindergarten at a Blue Ribbon school and won't need to be in private any longer. I don't live in Laguna but know there are multiple Montessori's to interview/research.

If Laguna Beach is too expensive, try Laguna Niguel. But that tends to be more cookie cutter.

Long Beach = LA County
Laguna Beach = South OC
Drive time = Fo'get about it!

I'd post this on the L.A. forum.

Personally I'd choose Hermosa Beach in the South Bay (18 miles from Long Beach, depending on the address).

currently living in Rossmoor, an uincorporated area often lumped in with Los Alamitos, near Seal Beach. Rossmoor is very family friendly and the houses are not cookie cutter since the houses were built in the 60's and many have been redone. The public schools are great however I find lots of our neighbors send their kids to private schools, St Hedwig is nearby or Valley Christian, then they go to Mater Dei or Orange Lutheran. Seal Beach is a super cute beach town, most of the families we know live in an area away from the beach called 'the hill'.
