I want to start drinking red wine on a daily basis, about a glass per day, for almost solely the benefit of heart health.

According to the following chart, the type of wine I want should have the benefits of a Zinfindel (lots of healthy) but the sweetness of a Pinot Noir. I don't really like Dry wine.

So what wine should I get? If I drink daily it would have to be a balance of quality and price point. Ideally the absolute healthiest for the best price (not just the cheapest wine).

I honestly don't really care about the pretentious "art" of wine drinking. I just want something healthy and enjoyable. I'm not looking for a hobby.

A cardiologist friend of mine says: the Cheaper the better, the Redder the Better.
He likes Zins.

My daily preferences are blends like Menage a Trois and 14 Hands Hot to Trot.
Trader Joe's also has ARCHEO NERO D'AVOLA which has a slightly sweet taste and smooth finish for only $5.

This may help your selection

Since you said solely for health benefits, wine isn't the answer, it is much easier and simpler: drink grape juice. Not the white or lighter colors by Wyler's Concord Grape juice. It provides as much benefit.

The idea that red wine does great things is a myth and it is proved that grape juice does as much. No alcohol.

Charles Schwab Cab or Merlot (aka two buck chuck). It is affordable and pretty good wine. They get surplus grapes from the best wineries and then made their wine. While they use mass production methods, it is really not all that different. No oak barrel flavor, but most places use stainless now anyway.

I think the goal of red wine is antioxidants. White tea has more.

Red wine was good enough for Jeebus, so it is good enough for me!

Not quite. Whereas grape juice does provide similar antioxidants and flavanoids such as resveratrol and anthocyanins, one reason for drinking wine for health; well you neglect the fact that alcohol alone is beneficial for high blood pressure as it is a vasodilator (in lower amounts) and relaxes the heart; and for other reasons such as that alcohol can help lower anxiety levels which for someone with high blood pressure is really great. Here is a quick article I found about why alcohol alone is good for the heart (in moderation, of course):
Quote:
"Alcohol raises blood levels of HDL (“good”) cholesterol—which removes cholesterol from the bloodstream—and thus helps prevent hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). Alcohol also reduces the stickiness of platelets in the blood and thus helps prevent the blood clots that cause heart attacks."
Source: Should You Drink Alcohol for Your Heart? | Wellness Letter
So whereas the benefits from grapes are one benefit to heart health, the alcohol by itself is also a benefit to heart health. Thus why Red Wine is better than just Grape Juice (provided you can drink in moderation - 1 to 2 glasses a day max).

This is why I'm looking to begin drinking red wine daily for my heart since even as young as I am I have high blood pressure and heart issues (which I believe was caused by taking ephredrine - the now-banned weight loss supplement - when I was in high school in an effort to get more defined abs).

As I stated above, no, it's not just the antioxidants. It is the alcohol content as well which is good for the heart.

I tried a Grifone Primitivo (Similar to a Zinfandel) yesterday from Trader Joes. 4.99 a bottle. Nice bold flavor and a smooth(er) finish. 13% alcohol. I would be totally OK with serving it to dinner guests.

It was before the Transubstantiation.

The wine Jeebus served was probably a very low grade variety. One of the main reasons that wine was served was because of the alcohol - which made it safer to drink than water.
