Ok - here's the deal. I went to high school and college in Santa Barbara and while I love SB dearly, I don't want to live there. There isn't a lot of job opportunity and there are barely any young professionals (aka: people my age, twenty-somethings). I moved to San Francisco about 6 months ago. I got a job up here and I have a few friends that live up here. The problem is I don't think it's the city for me. I miss the sun, open space, laid back people, a lower cost of living, etc. I don't think I am a city girl.

I have been exploring job options in other places and this time I really want to find a city that can be my home. So I need some advice. I lived briefly in LA and didn't totally love it and while I've been looking for jobs in SD, the salaries there just aren't as high. Which led me to start thinking about orange county.

Here is what I am looking for:
Sun
Laid back, friendly people
some kind of music scene because I am a singer
other young professionals so I can meet people

I am nervous with all the postings that say people in orange county are fake and materialistic because that is so not me.

Can anyone offer advice about living in the OC? If I were to move, I would be specifically looking to live near the beach - newport, huntington, etc.

Thanks so much for any advice!

Have you considered Vegas?

People in OC are no more fake than any other affluent area. And unfortunately for the "fake haters" the most desirable places to live tend to be affluent.

What is your budget for housing?
Where are you going to work?

I live in Orange County and I am moving out of here in the summer to the Phoenix area, the cost of living is way to expensive. Yes people here are very materialistic and fake. All I can say is dont move here.

You might want to look at Belmont Shore. It's not in OC but it's the next town over. It's not materialistic at all even though it's a quite affluent area. Probably more of what your seeking given your post.
