That's funny. They're not fooling anyone.I worked with someone named Felipe for a couple of years and after his promotion he insisted on being called Philip. He would even correct people that continued to call him Felipe as they had for years,so a lot of us stopped talking to him as he no longer saw himself as the same.Too bad he couldn't change his complexion as he probably would of.

Since whites are allegedly trying to look and sound black, does a black guy trying to sound white really sound black?

It seems to me that some people just can't win. They are made fun of for having outlandish names or speaking with a heavy accent, and if they try to change that, they are pretending to be white. Maybe they are just trying to fit in so people will leave them alone. Do white people have dibs on looking or sounding a particular way, or something?

Some of my relatives changed their names from a very Polish sounding "Kryqcheoljekowovichweicjakrutviciecswkski" (or something like that - wouldn't have fit on a football jersey anyway) to "Franklin" back in the 1920s.

What?

So, do you mean that if a black person doesn't speak "Ebonics", he or she is "acting white"? Or, if a black or Hispanic person concentrates on doing well in school, that is "acting white"? I have heard that there are people in both these ethnic groups that try to pull their fellows down because they are seeking to better their condition and to do things properly.

This is not limited to any one group of people, however.

Accent elimination is not a bad thing, either, especially since it aids in clear communication of the English language.

I am throwing this out here because your statements seems absurd on their face. Why can't people just be individuals instead of having to behave according to some stereotype that people wish to pin on them (all other things being equal)?

What about people that change their names from Tony Villar to Antonio Villarigoso as soon as they decide to run for office somewhere like LA or Santa Ana?

You are absolutely right, Emilo...anyone who is a minority and speaks articulate, dresses well, is law-abiding and educated is a discrace to their people!

Just look at Obama, 'President of the United States'...what a sellout to the white man...
