Any suggestions for the cheapest/safest place to live? I've been looking mostly in Irvine, and only require a studio apartment. I've looked at Craigs List and Apartments.com. Thanks for any advice!!

The area directly around John Wayne is decent. You could look in the Costa Mesa/Santa Ana "South Coast Metro area". Irvine as well. None of those areas will be particularly cheap, but they'll be among the safest you'll find studio apartments in and they're close to John Wayne

Irvine, Tustin Ranch, and parts of Costa Mesa will be your best bets.
