Not exactly the kind of area where residents have enough cash to throw away on such a luxury.

But Google finds one in nearby Coquille, Dee La Von School of Massage. The Google Street View is not promising though. Almost sure I know who's truck that is in front of the Mexican place next door.

But it is doubtful they would want to spend their money on massages. If that were the case, believe me there would be all sorts of massage therapists hanging out their shingles in these towns.
If you are determined to try, it would probably be best to come to Portland and go to school there. Then you can move to the town of your choice and try your luck.

Also search out information in this forum that has addressed massage therapist training and practice. There have been many people asking about this occupation on pervious threads. They may be helpful to you.

They way you Oregonians are talking Coos Bay,Charleston,North Bend it must be like a dump where the only residents are poor people???

Well im certain they dont miss thier coffee or scones considering there are numerous culinary schools all over.
Im not sure as to whether i was asking if people thought the people of the Coos Bay area could afford it it was just if there may have been a local yocal who knew something i didnt about schooling

Thank You Much For The Responses And As always you Oregonians are a breath of fresh air!

The area is more of a blue collar town and I do not know of any schools of that type----doubt if they care. You should visit and make up your mind but not sure this is the area for your and as to fine dining---not much really.

That area was decimated in the 80's economically and it has never really rebounded from that. A good portion of those three cities economies is from Tourism, which has been way down the past couple of years. AND, the drastic decrease in fishing off the coast hasn't helped either. If it wasn't for the Casino in Coos Bay, I think tourism would be completely out the window. A few companies have moved in, but they're minimum wage, low-skilled positions and only account for a few hundred jobs. It's an extremely blue collar area that depended heavily on shipping timber products over seas.

The port isn't big enough, nor has enough infrastructure to convert for larger cargo ships, nor is there the need for a large seaport between SF and Portland/Seattle.

Most everyone I know who lives there are third and fourth generation natives. There was an influx of Californians during the early 90's, but it seems a lot of them moved on by the early 00s.

I wouldn't know much about culinary schools, but dining is pretty low key. Fast food, chains and truck stop/Denny's quality food. Cheap and huge portions. There are a few "better" dining choices, but none would make a "best of" list if they were in Eugene or Portland. Everyone has their coffee, but it's not Starbucks, more likely Folgers home brewed.

I absolutely love the area, if there was a job, I'd be down there in a heartbeat. But I believe it is the most economically depressed area on the Oregon Coast, if not all of Oregon.

The point I was trying to get across is that most locals don't have enough income to spend on things like massages. Many are scraping by just to get necessities, look at the stats on this site: http://www.city-data.com/city/Coos-Bay-Oregon.html

Keep in mind that due to it's location, things like Fuel and Food are actually more expensive then other areas.

Great Culinary school in Coos Bay by SWOCC. No Massage school in the area, but there are several places to get a massage. Yes the area is as poor as we say it is. Not much fine dinning but a couple of good places to eat.
