Just an FYI to anyone who wants to visit/live out my way at this time of year:

The Wilson River was looking pretty angry this morning during my drive over the hump to PDX, and there was quite a bit of minor flooding in the farms along the river down by the bay. I'll try to snap a cell phone shot on the way home.

Some power outages here and there, but nothing ugly.

Best bet to avoid the yuck? Stick to Hwy 101 (it's open all the way north to Seaside). Hwy 6 and downtown Tillamook should be okay. No high water reported or seen anywhere else.

The storms promise to be frickin' awesome this weekend...

Flooding farmland around Tillamook is common. On rare occasions it gets really ugly and dairy farmers in the valley send them hay.

True indeed. It's almost an annual thing.

The golf course has a few more water hazards than it was originally designed for, and there are a few fields that have collected a bit of excess water, but otherwise nothing massive or threatening.

The promised storms never showed up ( ), and things are drying out nicely.

Today's forecast is for 2"-4" inland and 6"-8" on the west slope. Wear your rubber booties.

No worries... working from home today. If it gets too ugly come morning, I'll happily work from home then, too.

Be interesting to see what happens tonight. It looks like it will stay cold, so any Coast Range snowmelt will be slow.
What we don't want is a big warm wet kiss with all the snow in the mountains.
Over here, the Tualatin is about as full as I've seen it in several years, so the next couple days could get interesting.

Came over the hump this morning, and there was just a very light flurry at best. The roads would be perfectly clear except for the tons of rock salt dumped on them.

There was a 10-minute stretch just at the Eastern side of the summit where fog came up and got somewhat thick, but otherwise nothing much to report this morning.

I did notice a huge group of fisherfolk packed at the Wilson River boat ramp this morning (the river isn't nearly as angry-looking as it was a few days back, but still... damn.)

Should be sand and gravel, not rock salt. (as has been discussed extensively before.)

...which would explain the nice new chip in the upper center portion of my windshield.
