Hm. Canby's been in my bad books since they passed a precursor to Measure 9, back in the early 90s. The aim being, basically, to bar homosexuals from teaching in public schools.

Shame on you Canbyites.

EnricoV that was 20 years ago. Have you been there since? Any reason to believe Canby residents still share that narrow minded view? The town has seen a nearly 25% population growth since 2000 (http://www.city-data.com/city/Canby-Oregon.html).

I do appreciate your honesty! Thank you.

A friend of mine lives in Canby and he tells me it's the most gang controlled area in all Oregon. He and his nfamily only go to a few selected stores and no where at night. Now, I don't know if that's true, but...

Been through it. And I know people who live there. I don't stop, and won't spend a dollar in the city. 20 years isn't enough for the entire population to do an about face, even if there are 25% new residents. Doesn't mean that a majority of the old, bigoted ones aren't still there.

But yes, I hold a grudge. Springfield is on my list, too.

My BIL & wife live in Canby and have not told stories of crime at all. They are retired, formerly a technician and teacher. If they had concerns I would hear about it. Both are active in a local 'main line' church.

BIL's kids attended Canby's high school. They recommend his son either enter college or find another program when he was a sophomore. Basically he was even beyond their talented & gifted offerings. He now is an individual contributor at Microsoft. BIL's other two children were also very academic and did well.

My niece lived in Canby. All I can say is that her sons managed to finish high school without engaging in any criminal activity. Both are married and are responsible parents.

If you have kids I recommend checking the Oregon schools assessment where ever you are thinking about living. Parental values and supervision have more to do with a child's success in school than any other factor.

I like Canby. It is close enough to Portland. And if my husband is transferred to Salem, its a tolerable commute. Obviously with us buying a house, we like the area. I was just looking to see if others agreed with my thoughts.
