Hi there,

I would be moving to oregon in April. I have a few questions regrading the safety issues.

How safe is Salem and Stayton and which city is more safe. I will be working at Scio.

I am towards staying at Stayton. But i see that the crime report is pretty high in satyton. If, i want to stay at Stayton, do you recommend some streets to avoid.

Are Riverfront apartments good? and is the area around it safe? Also do you see a lot of car theft? I am currently staying at SD.

I will be driving to Oregon in the first week of April. How are the driving conditions around that time? do you find lot of snow at that time.

Your replies are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

That's interesting, my Mom lives near Stayton and it sure seems safe to me, almost pastoral. Probably meth heads in trailer parks (which it appears there are at least a few of).

If you're commuting to Scio, you're probably going to end up with the shortest trip by living on the East side of Salem and if that's the case you're better off in Stayton. You might be just fine attempting to live in South Salem too, not a super long way to Scio and considerably better than the eastside if you need to live in the 'city'.

Good luck.

[EDIT:Re Snow - the valley will be fine, getting there from Eastern Oregon may offer some snow in the Cascade passes but it shouldn't be too bad that far into spring]

Stayton is a safe community and small town. No dangerous parts. You will be completely safe there.

If snow is a concern, I recommend driving I-84. It might be a tad out of the way, but it is mostly all flat along the Columbia River, and very little concern for mountain snow driving.
