I drive through it on the way down from southern Oregon. I-5 goes straight through city and it seems like a nice little city. It is pretty with a river running through. There is also a wine area in Douglas county call Umqua wine country. The city doesn't have a whole lot of big city things to do however. One mall and some box stores. A small downtown.

In Southern Oregon, US Cellular has the best coverage. You can roam to Verizon for no fee. I don't know anyone who uses T-Mobile. No matter what you do, reception is spotty. I use a signal amplifier in my vehicle to get a signal in fringe areas.

good lord.
Depends. Are you running California plates?

I've driven all over SW Oregon generally 5 over the speed limit, and I've been caught on radar at least one time in every county, and haven't gotten pulled over yet. The only speed trap I have been able to identify, is on I-5 south of Ashland. The Jackson County Sheriff's Dept. seems to be making big money pulling over CA drivers coming down the mountain. But most of them are probably going 20 over.

I've seen Douglas County Sheriff's cars hiding behind trees on the side of the road, but I don't see them pull over many drivers, except for DUIs on Friday and Saturday nights.

That sounds a little paranoid, especially without any context.

Tell us your story.

Only place I've ever got a speeding ticket in 30 years of driving in Oregon was in Douglas County near Elkton driving over to see a friend in Coos Bay. That was 30 years ago. Total speed trap. Well, maybe I was going 5 over but no more than that. I blew off the ticket and 10 years later it caught up with me when I went to get my first mortgage in Alaska and it popped on my credit report. So I had to pay it with all the back fees.

Only other thing I really remember about Douglas County was stopping at Rice Hill for ice cream when we were driving from Eugene down to Grants Pass to see family. Is that still a thing? Does everyone stil stop in Rice Hill for ice cream?
