Hi Ca Boy. I'm also a Ca resident wondering about moving to Or. Years have passed since I went through Bandon. Do you have a plan for doctors? What if one day (we all hope not) you can't drive anymore for whatever reason. Are there local doctors or public transport to doctors in larger cities?

I envy you your move! Good for you and yours and congratulations!

I am at "that" age.
The way I look at it, I am going to live where I want to live.

Saying that, I am not blind.
Considerations will be taken.

Currently for me, it will take half an hour for emergency help to get to me, and another half an hour to arrive at a hospital, so I guess I have made my choices.

I suppose what it all boils down to is this:

I you are worried about receiving immediate medical help for whatever ails you, STAY IN TOWN, and pick a town where a hospital and that help is available to you.

You can pay for Life Flight, or whatever it's called, keep your vehicles in top notch shape, have your friends and relatives provide some kind of transportation safety net, do whatever it takes.

But in the end it's all on you and your choices.

PS: Oregon isn't at all (backwoods) like it was a few decades ago......

It depends on what city? Full transit service is available in the Willamette Valley cities. Limited transit service is available in other cities such as Bend, Medford, and Newport. Extremely limited transit service is available in cities such as Coos Bay. By extremely limited I mean it's probably not even worth considering. In other areas special ride services may be provided for doctors appointments, if you qualify. You would probably have to get that information from your doctor, or clinic.

I suspect he means transit from small coast cities to larger coast cities or from small coast cities to larger inland cities.

There are a couple, mostly AMTRAK-affiliated, lines -

https://pacificcrestbuslines.com/coos-bay-eugene-bend/
https://currypublictransit.org/coastal-express/
https://www.eugenecascadescoast.org/...portation/bus/

If I was looking at places on the south coast and concerned about access to larger cities, I'd stick to the Florence area, which has the most direct access to Eugene. I prefer Bandon, Gold Beach and Yachats to Florence, but then I am a mere vacationer, not resident.

He mentioned specifically doctors appointments. Around here service for medical appointments is provided by door to door taxi or van services. The Pacific Crest bus is used primarily by people connecting with Amtrak and Greyhound. It doesn't stop close to any medical facilities.

To pdxMIKEpdx, Cloudy Dayz, PNW-type-gal,

Thank you all for your replies. Would have replied sooner but just got notified posts were here and it's been so long since I've been on City-Data I couldn't remember how to get back to the right place. Argh. Still can't, so I hope notices are standard procedure. All good information and things to look into. So nice to have 'locals' give their opinions and advice. Lots to think about, not the least of which is sage advice from Mike, "But in the end it's all on you and your choices." So darn true.

Thank you all again,
Truth

OP, two words: stainless steel and cedar on all exposed structures that requires wood. Otherwise a burn resistant product.
