It's not far as the crow flies but you either have to loop south to Crescent City or north almost to Roseburg before you can cut across to Bandon. There are no highways from Grants Pass directly to the coast.

8. Not very diverse so a lack of interesting ethnic restaurant options.
7. Sorry but I don't think that is an issue. Grants Pass to Crescent City is 1 hour 41 minutes, (82.4 miles). Eugene to Florence is 1 hour 17 minutes (61.3 miles). Plus when you get to Florence, you still have to drive a ways to actually get to a beach. I hardly think an extra 24 minutes to get to the coast is going to be a deal killer for anyone. Although I will give it to Eugene for being the most centrally located city. Within a two hours you can drive from Eugene to almost any place in Western Oregon, from Portland to Medford, and from the Coast to the Cascades.

8. Where in Oregon is that not true? I don't have enough experience with Portland to have an opinion, but I'm sure not impressed with the selection of ethnic restaurants in Eugene.

i agree, those aren't serous cons for me. I do wish they had more racial diversity. do you have any info on the small town of rogue river? was wondering if its a nicer area as far as community goes ? less homeless/ poverty, drugs?

Rouge River is a nice town. Grants Pass is a nice down. Do they have problems? Sure, but they are still nice towns.

Rogue River is nice, however it's very small and very limited in restaurants and such. One of the best Italian Restaurants around - Paissano's - is in Rogue River. Amazing food - especially on Friday nights when you can try their chicken parm.

Grants Pass has some nice areas though. You might want to try driving out Lower River Rd. heading west from Grants Pass. Open spaces. I see pretty nice homes on 2.5 acres or so in the $345,000 to $400,000 range. About a 15 minute drive to downtown Grants Pass.

I know this is mere speculation, however I do think that properties in this area will continue to rise over the next decade or so.

As for resale, I imagine that in general it would be easier to sell a home in Grants Pass, or in the unincorporated area just outside (still with a GP mailing address) than it would be in Rogue River or Gold Hill (for example).
