Hello everyone!
I'm new to this posting stuff, never done it before however I've done with looking at data on the web...see they don't tell you for instance that (brightwood) a niehborhood inside indianapolis is a horriable place to be unless you like the police lights as a night lights...lol. So to the outside eye you would think BRIGHTWOOD has a nice feel to it untill you get there. Noblesville sounds to me like a nice little country place....when you get there and look to buy you need a big income.... My problem is I need to know is what and where are the good areas with the most jobs and adfordable living I did the data on a web site for cost of living and Klamath Falls came out to be about the same as I looked at the area it looked DRY dont need that but I know I cant be picky. OK here it is,I need...
My wife is an L.S.W (social worker ) jobs
I'm going to school for (mangament,sales,adver.ect)...jobs
my kids are used to good schools that care( one of my children have mental and emotional problems (the state of Indiana dont care)
we make it here on 36,000 a/yr with $700 in rent for a 3 bedroom.
My point is we need to move Indiana gov. sucks tooooo far right.....and the sevices they provide stinks we make too much for help but just under the amount to provide heath insur. for all of us and not be broke...maybe everbodys this way.
any help would be helpfull( Green, not to hot not to cold, nice, workable or with in 30mins,and a house thats not 9trillon $$$ lolo thats all I could find when looking at the reallity's web site for zip code 97439 I think
thanks matt

Well Matt, can't blame you for wanting to live in Oregon. But i have to tell you, as far as gov't jobs go, they are saved for the natives and their friends, as far as affordable, on 36k it won't be near a town. More like 45-60 min. rent is higher than what you are paying.

Public dole is getting thinner and thinner, the Oregon health plan is in emergency mode.
Southern and Eastern Oregon is primarily Conservative Christian, except for Ashland. Central is mixed, northern is Liberal.
Your best shot is most likely east of Portland.

best wishes,

freedom

Hi, Matt

If you are working towards a degree in management/marketing, then Klamth Falls might not have the right school for you. You could consider Salem, which is less expensive than Portland but it has a university (private, not state so the tuition might be high) but it also has a good community college. There is bus service to Portland that would provide a commute option for you to one of Portland's many colleges. Salem and Portland will have the most opportunities for LSW jobs for your wife, but Salem has a lower cost of living. If your wife is employed with the state, the health benefits are excellent. Of course, Salem has its drawbacks - it is a small town for a capitol city and it rains a lot in the winter, but it is only an hour or two away from the beach, the mountains, camping, skiing, "big city" cultural events in Portland, and in the town itself there are some beautiful parks and cultural activities. Southeast Salem is a good place to raise a family.

I have a special needs child and out here the teachers care, but funds are an issue. We have several type of special education classrooms for various types of needs here in Salem. I think Portland is trying to go toward greater inclusion. I won't lie...we have phenomenal teachers here, but our schools are underfunded and some classroom sizes are really high in some schools.

Social work jobs...I would stick to Eugene, Salem, or Portland for most options. WOU (Western Oregon University) has a business degree at their school and the cost of living in Monmouth is fairly inexpensive. You could commute to Salem from there. I have a friend getting her degree their now and she is happy with the program.

In Salem proper we have two private schools. Willamette University is good, but expensive. It depends on how many school loans you want to take on.

You could rent an apartment for $700 in Salem, but it would be tight for you. Salem has many small towns that surround it that are a little bit more affordable, but with gas prices the way they are, it might make more sense to be closer to where you would go to school and your wife would work.
