Central Oregon i.e. Bend is sunny and much drier than westside of Oregon.
Southern Oregon also has many towns with dry climate
EAstern Oregon is very very dry.

Yes, if you're concerned about the schools, Eagle Point schools do have a good reputation. However, the Rogue Valley area (Medford, Ashland, Eagle Point, Talent and several other towns) doesn't have a good way to get to the coast.

I don't know how important being close to "the water" is to you. Also remember that unless you live WAY down south on the coast (Brookings, Gold Beach) you will have to put up with a lot of rain.

But it isn't a dream. There are many smaller towns in Oregon that are wonderful.
