Hi Everyone,

I'm Kate. Are you thinking about moving to Oregon? Do you want stats on crime, schools, neighborhoods, cost of living?

After reading hundreds of threads from people asking identical questions, I decided to put the 'Moving to Oregon' FAQ's here. Then if you have a more specific question, we can spend more time addressing that, if you don't find your answer by using the search utility above this box, on the right side.

For example, if you want to know about the 'burbs, just type in the major city, Oregon & put suburb with it, in the search box. Or if you want to know about the beach or weather, put those words in the search box with the word Oregon.

Oregon is not a hot state although the south & eastern part is sunnier & warmer. The desert has the wild temperature swings of cold at night when it's warm or hot in the day. And then there's snow in the desert, northern Oregon & Willamette Valley. Snow clogs things up in the WV. I don't think we deal with snow well!

It rains alot, but there don't seem to be many thunderstorms or horrible downpours. The coast is foggy/windy for the most part, from what I read. If you want to know where it's sunny or warm, just put your terms in the search box! Otherwise, hundreds of people seem to ask the same questions every month!

Work is scarce & hard to get an interview for. Alot of competition for government services, also.

There's no sales tax & you don't pump your own gas. You don't have to tip but it's nice if you do. There are little drive thru coffee huts everywhere & they do know how to make coffee as good as Starbucks, usually!

It's just as wonderful here as the articles in National Geographic. There are lots of lakes, creeks & rivers to enjoy here. The outdoors are breathtaking. The trees & wildlife are awesome. It's a great place to go camping. There's no shortage of outdoor fun!

The people tend to be warm & friendly & they'll smile at you when they're driving! There are all kinds of alternative cultural styles here. It's a fun place to be a little wierd. And it's okay to be ultra conservative, as long as you can smile at your liberal counterparts & enjoy the variety! There's something for everyone in Oregon.

All in all, the positives outweigh the negatives.
