I will soon be relocating to the Orlando area for work and I'm hoping someone can help guide me to an area of Orlando that would fit what I'm looking for. I'm 30, unmarried and without kids so I'm looking for a place with ample bars/clubs/etc where I'd find it easy to meet people. I will be working in St Cloud so really I'd prefer anywhere from downtown and south of downtown. I'd like to find a decent 2BD apartment for $1,000/month or less (that probably eliminates downtown) so any suggestions are appreciated. At this point I'm lost on where to start looking.

Based on your likes I would advise you look into Winter Park, Thornton Park or College Park.
Since you are going to be commuting to St Cloud, I would look into Lake Nona and just accept that you will have to drive a ways to get to good nightlife or hangouts.

I think the 3 areas Wilshire mentioned would be a little too north for driving back & forth to St. Cloud. But then again you want to live near bars/clubs, so they would work for that. If distance to work and distance to bars/clubs are your biggest criteria (other than the 2/2 for $1000), then you gotta weigh out what's more important to not have to drive far for. Lake Nona's a good idea if you want to be closer to work. Maybe just a little north of Lake Nona on Narcoossee, try the Lee Vista Blvd area...there's some apartment/townhome/condo type complexes over there.

Thanks for the suggestions; I'll look into those areas. From looking at a map I was thinking Lake Nona looked like a good compromise for commute distance between work/downtown.
