We are in our 40s with kids in college and are moving to Orlando. I would love neighborhood suggestions. We are physically active in tennis and golf and appreciate good restaurants and shopping. I would love a smaller home with high end upgrades but can also do a large home. High end price wise would be $800k. Any suggestions?

Do you prefer historic areas with older homes, neighborhoods with "character", old shady trees, and more urban walkable amenities? Or, do you want to be in a newer, more suburban area with more of a master-planned feel with landscaping and palm trees?

Default Orlando move

At this point I am interested in anything. I currently live in a very suburban area with country club facility so I am used to that but was thinking a change could be nice as well. I have been to Orlando and driven around the Lake Eola area and loved the fact that you could walk to restaurants and shops. My husband is very handy so an older home is a viable option.

That is where I live and if you liked that atmosphere then by all means you should consider one of the surrounding neighborhoods. I love these neighborhoods...they are just beautiful, and it is great living downtown. Eola Heights is just north of the lake and Thornton Park is just east. A third, Delaney Park, is to the south of I-4 and very nice...just a bit further of a walk to get to everything.

Dr. Phillips would be a great option- you have "Restaurant Row" on Sand Lake, which has tons of restaurants and shopping, also nearby is the upscale Mall at Millenia, plus entertainment options at Disney, Universal, SeaWorld, and I-Drive.. all in the immediate area. Your budget will give you lots of housing options.

HI! We moved from Frisco, Texas in December. We still have teens and settled in Oviedo. If we were empty nests we would have LOVED Lake Eola. Are y'all from Texas, if so I am trying to start a displaced Texans in Orlando group. I thought it was worth a shot because of your user name.

You guessed correctly. We are native Texans. You can take the girl from Texas but you can't take Texas from the girl!

Since my daughter moved near downtown and I've seen all the communities, I LOVE it down there. Quaint neighborhoods with older homes, close to all the restaurants.... I could really see myself living there.
