Has anyone else seen this happening quite a bit at the toll booths between Sanford + Orlando? It seems like every day I see several FDOT's pulling people over at that booth.

I wasn't even aware that they had the power to pull over/ticket people. Anyone know what infractions they are handling?

They are handling toll runners primarily. But the FDOT has the same traffic enforcement rights as the FHP.

Interesting, I never knew that. It seems odd that they only recently starting doing this at the toll booths.

I know someone that has worked for DOT for over 20 years and yes they can pull you over or pull anyone over in traffic...they can even help if there is an emergency and the police need backup involving a robbery or something if they are the only other law inforcement in the area to help...they have the same power as a regular cop ....but thier main job is stopping semi-trucks and dealing with other "traffic" issues

They can pull people over because they have state-wide Law Enforcement jurisdiction. They were probably doing some type of traffic enforcement. They're certified Law Enforcement and their jobs are basically the same as a Highway Patrol Trooper, but mainly focus on Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.

I heard they are detaining people who try to pay tolls with large bills 20's, 50's, and 100's.

I had heard about that too. Apparently counterfeit bills have become an issue given the quick in/out and little time to check for validity. There was a news report talking about it as well as the racial profiling involved which got DOT into a bit of hot water.
