As an aside, are there any particular real estate groups or agents you'd recommend? Obviously you had a decent experience, since you got more or less what we want in DP.

I sent you a private message. If you want brand new cookie cutter housing than Clermont might suit your needs. DP is older and more established with most homes built in the 80's. Some people love the rolling hills and more "rural" feel of Clermont, though they continue to build more every day. It takes a while to get anywhere, and if you want to head most places east, you're more than likely going to pay a toll to do so. I think you'll find that 90% of the folks on here will tell you, that on a whole, Dr. Phillips is a better place to set down roots, and is one of the best places to live in the Orlando area.

We were very fortunate to get the home we did when we did, but I can't imagine prices going up that much over the last few months. $275k is reasonable for DP for sure. You won't get an estate on the water in Bay Hill, but you should be able to get a nice home in an established community here as long as you are PATIENT.

It seems like all the houses we're liking on the real-estate sites are in Clermont, so far.
We don't have a great food scene here, but it is starting to improve. There's a newer place in downtown Clermont that looks promising, although I haven't tried it yet. San Joses has good, fresh Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican. It's fairly loud and service is spotty, but the food is good and it's inexpensive. It's a chain--but only three locations, all local, family owned and operated.
