I've lived in Deltona 30+ years and I love it. Homes are a little cheaper and taxes are not that bad once you get your Homestead Exemption--taxes are bad everywhere in FL (as someone else said).

I don't know much about fishing or other water sports but my grown son lives on a huge chain of lakes and there are a lot of people around him who jet ski and fish, etc. Snakes are in the water and do/can come up by the houses but then we have snakes all over FL and my son has seen only a very few, mostly a couple black racers (harmless and eat rodents and other 'bad' snakes). I have the black racers by me and I don't live near a lake.

As for the gators, they can be around lakes. My son hasn't seen any but that doesn't mean they aren't there. Lake Monroe (between Sanford and Deltona/Enterprise area) does have a lot of gators and you can see them swimming in that lake around dawn, then they go to their lairs near the shore or wherever gators go. If you live on a lake, tho, I'd recommend that you not let small pets outside unless they're in a well-fenced area--small cats and dogs esp) as they have been known to disappear. Just watch carefully.

I love Deltona and there are lots of things to do if you look for them. We're going to eventually have a large movie theater and shops soon (well, hopefully soon!) and there's lots of shopping just over the bridge in Sanford, and up the road in Orange City, Deland, etc.

If you want bass fishing then John's Lake is the place it is regularly seen on fishing programs touting the bass fishing..
