The city (with the support of private developers) NEEDS to appeal this with the FAA, they have NEVER appealed this and hence the restriction stills stands and has likely scared away projects in which we could have had taller skyscrapers. I honestly do not believe the Orlando Executive Airport brings enough business and air traffic to justify the damper that it has put on Downtown Orlando's skyline, and this is the sad part, we are talking about a small general aviation airport. If necessary, the flight path into ORL could by easily adjusted to avoid flying over downtown... Politics at its finest..

That airport needs to relocate. I know you probably love that airport a lot, but the city should concentrate and putting more towers in the city, make them all to limit if need be.

You are aware tall buildings are far more expensive to construct and maintain than short ones, and there's quite a handful of vacant lots in Orlando, even downtown, still.

It's never going to be New York or Hong Kong... or even Miami.

I do miss my hometown A LOT, and would definitely move back were it not for the weather, among a few other minor things.

That said, I've made my bed here in Orlando, and plan to raise my family into adulthood right here. I love it, there's lots to do, and very little to complain about.
Orlando does have a lot of activities to do.

My hometown has height restrictions.
The skyline is still beautiful. Doesn't have to be super tall to be nice:

I agree, I think proportion and density can create just a great a skyline as height. And at the end of the day although it can be beautiful to admire from a distance, I'm more concerned about the actual life on the streets of a downtown that makes it live and breathe.

Yeah pretty much. There is another forum I go to where there is very active discussion about every single major Orlando development. There is constructive criticism rather than the negativity that this forum attracts.

Does anybody know what are the height restrictions for downtown by the FAA? All of the tallest buildings are under 500 feet which is usually considered the height a building needs to be called a skyscraper.

From the Orlando Sentinel:

Orlando doesn't have a height limit for buildings, but anything of significant height has to be reviewed and approved by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Downtown Orlando lacks a clear identity and distinctive skyline, committee finds. - Orlando Sentinel
