The better schools have become very crowded and new residents in most areas are provided with the lower performing schools as the only choice, except for Heathrow Elementary which is the highest rated currently, but not full yet because it's in the area with the lowest population. If you can find a place to live within that area I would say there's no need for a private school. The link provided shows where you can live within it's district. I know for a fact Sun Lake Apartments is zoned for Heathrow Elementary and also has a sizable Indian community living there.

Hi Kyle,

Thank you very much for the information. Much appreciated. I have few more questions

1. So which other schools do you recommend other than Heathow?

2. What are the chances of finding better schools towards south of Lake Mary? DO you have any idea?

3. Are there any school bus services or do we have to drop our kids to school?

4. I do not see any other elementary schools having good rating in greatschools.org?

5. I heard that if we get transferred during the school year, the schools in florida do not consider mid year admissions? Is it true?

Your response would be greatly appreciated.

1. Besides Heathrow Elementary, look at Wilson Elementary and Bentley Elementary.

2. The next best option is Oviedo but there isn't much of an Indian community there and it's a good bit more rural.

3. There are school bus services available

4. I wouldn't place a lot of credibility on the Great Schools site as they routinely provide scores of '7" for "A"-rated and "B+-rated" schools. Furthermore two years ago Seminole County revised the testing scale for higher performing schools to challenge students/educators. As a result schools that used to appear a good bit higher performing now register as "B" or even "C" which is ridiculous if looking at the criteria where under-performing, socio-economically challenged students' scores are weighted more heavily than the majority of top performers. I think Schooldigger tends to be more accurate with their assessments.

5. I think that is correct concerning mid-year transfers but think the Florida Virtual School is an option to stay on track and move through requirements to get onto the next grade level without issue. I would check in with them to find out. https://www.flvs.net/

Thank you so much Kyle... the info you provided are so much useful to make my decision. So further more I have few more questions.

Though we have the job at Lake Mary we are ok to travel by staying more south of it.

1. Which is the best county in Florida for Elementary schools. I heard about Orange county. How is it?

2. My kid will be going to 2nd grade from this september. So do you have any idea best schools based on the county in Florida.

3. I would also like to know about good indian community apartments based on your reply.

thank you very much...

If you have a job in Lake Mary, living there or in Sanford is your best bet. You do not want to be commuting from the south out of southern Seminole County or Orange County unless you like spending a long time in your car every day. Again, Seminole County schools are your best bet. Sun Lake Apartments in Lake Mary will place you in the Heathrow Elementary school zone which is an "A" rated school and the apartments themselves have a very sizable Indian community living there plus three Indian restaurants and an Indian market minutes away.

The state of Florida ranks all schools based on A to F ranking system. I have listed some of the 'A' rated schools by county on the web site: www.movetoorlando.info. There you can also find a link to the ranking of all 67 school districts in the state. It should be noted that these are public school rankings. You have to be careful with the private schools and do your due diligence. The popular ones don't necessarily offer the best education. I know a number of people that transferred their children to private schools only to go back to public for better academic experience. (there are some good magnet schools in Seminole County you may also consider)

I agree regarding the private schools as well and also worth noting that the state revised the testing criteria (FCAT) which disproportionately affected the already higher-performing schools with more stringent standards that have resulted in a good many "A" schools falling to "B" or even "C" status, which is in no way reflective of a fall off in quality over two years time.
