Good morning,

My family and I will be relocating to the Orlando area next summer for work. We are looking in Winter Park and Lake Nona currently. We have two young children, 7 and 10, and are looking for an area that has good schools, safe neighborhoods, and convenience. Does anyone on here live in Lake Nona? What is it like to live there? What are the fees like? I know there is an HOA, CDD, and a newer A&E fee. Are there additional fees you pay? I like the idea of everything being right there, and it looks like the schools are good. For those of you with kids in elementary and middle school, do you like the schools? How do you like your neighborhood and neighbors?

Thank you!!

It seems like everybody is moving to Lake Nona. The schools are good but you get less house for the money. There are also less amenities around and everything seems like it's on Narcoosee Rd, which is a traffic nightmare. Are you working from home?

It really depends on commute. Winter Park will be a 15-20 min commute everyday while Lake Nona will be a 30-45 min commute. I'm not a huge fan of Lake Nona because I think it's a cookie cutter suburb and lacks quality restaurants. Plus it's a hike to downtown Orlando if you want to do any of those activities.

You will likely be bored and feel isolated in Lake Nona. It's a pretty community, but just so isolated, still up and coming, lacks restaurants, etc. A lot of spillover from St. Cloud and Kissimmee as well.

I'll have to agree. I was just there last a few weekends ago, and while it has built up like crazy, something about it still feels isolated.

And at least in Winter Park there's a train and two buses that connect downtown WP to downtown Orlando so you don't have to drive if you don't want to. If we're lucky, the train to Lake Nona is 20 years away.

I'm not hating on Lake Nona. downtown Lake Nona has a lot of really cool stuff coming in. I just think if you're there you need to be comfortable with the idea of that being the center of your universe. It's not like your trapped - it's just that everything except the airport is going to seem far away.

Just curious, how did Seminole County evade your options?

It gives me Celebration type vibes, just a modern version. Celebration is like the typical suburban Caucasian family with the picket fence. Lake Nona is the more edgy typical suburban Caucasian family without the picket fence. However, it just feels bland and lacks authentic options as of now.
