Yes, it was in the headlines of the online Sentinel on Saturday. This is just for the city of Orlando's part of the tax bill. The county must be doing OK. It is pending approval at their budget meeting in September, but I've never known them to vote an increase down. I've lived in Orlando for 3 years now (lived in Seminole County before) and they've increased the millage rate for 2006, 2007 and now 2008.

From my calculations, it looks like they will take back the tax savings of Amendment 1 provided plus a little more. My tax bill will increase about $100 - not that significant when you're already paying 4800.00.

If we weren't talking about so much money, it would almost be funny. Last year my assessed value went up 100K! I kid you not. This year it came down 72K. So, even though the assessed value went way down this year - but my bill went up the full 3% allowed. Now I wonder - with the tax increase can it go up even higher than 3%? I thought that was what SOH was all about....a 3% cap per year?

Taxes are rising due to the passage of Amendment One and declining property values.
