We're contemplating moving out to Wedgefield and I just wanted to gauge people's thoughts and feelings about this area. Any input will be helpful. Thanks

It seems like a good area if you are retired and like golfing. Its closer to the beach than most golf communities in Orlando. The things I do not like is its proximity to Bithlo and all that brings with it. Also it seems like you would have to do alot of driving to buy groceries or run regular errands as the subdivision is very remote.

I agree, it's nice, peace and quiet. Neighbors and homeowners association is voluntary and leave you alone. But you got a drive just to get simple stuff like groceries, there's only a nearby Publix, about 5 miles west. If you need to get to a Home Depot or other supplies, you gotta go a longer ways, at least 10-15 minutes west or east, to an area which has the "big box" stores. Nice thing is it's closer to the east coastal areas and cruise ports, that's about it.

I used to have a girl friedn that lived there when I was in highschool in the early 90's. I like the neighborhood. It does add another 15 minutes to any where you want to go though. But in the past 10 years they have slowly been building out towards the area. In the near future there wil be all you could ever imagine out there including home depots and large box stores like walmart. And a lot of people dont know this but there is a on ramp to the Beach Line expressway in the back of wedgefield. And back when I was in highschool we actually drove from where the back of where avalon is now to the back of wedgefiled. Its all woods though and we had to knock down soem barbed wire fences to make it through. But its closer than you would think.

We live in Wedgefield and love it. So peaceful and quiet. The only drawback is the drive to stores, etc, but it's worth it. I'll answer any questions you have.

We drove out there to check it out, and found it to be a quick drive on open road, at least it was from Disney and Orlando International Airport.

Once there, we had mixed feelings. The side of the subdvision with all acre plus lots, yes, the lots are big, but there's a really out in the middle of nowhere feeling to it, and many undeveloped and overgrown lots. The side with smaller lots looked like it was beginning to slide into cheap, uncared for rental housing. We were greeted by the local cops evidently on a domestic disturbance call, out in a driveway right at the north subdivision entrance. It looked like a lot of people were having trouble affording keeping up their homes.

So, plusses were lot size, home price, away from the city, and clear sailing on open highway to get there. Minuses were isolation, and the maybe deterioration of the area, if what we saw is a trend that continues. Our overall vote : No.

Adds a good 15 min to any drive..except the beach! My best friend lives there, and I drive there almost every weekend, so the drive isn't that bad, even the part through Bithlo. (Living close to Bithlo would actually be convenient, as you can get good work on your car for cheap there) The neighborhood is beautiful, peaceful, and the schools are some of the best in FL.

Wedgefield is a nice place to live, if you dont want to drive far for stores than just move to the waterford area, which is where you'd be going if you wanted to shop if you lived in wedgefeild
