Hi! Am looking for some guidance. Husband and I are relocating to central Florida with our pleasure horses. Currently narrowed it down to Mt Dora or Deland area and up to Gainesville/Lake City areas. Want to move to an area that has good restaurants and where we won't be considered an outsider because we are from the north. Ruled out Ocala as too expensive. Thank you in advance for any help. Cynthia

Of your choices I'd say...Gainesville or Mt Dora.

Both will have your restaurants...Gainesville being a College town and Mt Dora having that wonderful downtown.

Both will have your normal chains.

Rest assured...anywhere in the Central Florida area you won't be considered an outsider. It's a very transient area with new people moving in and out everyday.

I don't know anything about the Horse Set so hopefully there are some on the board that can help you with that.

Deland is very nice and close to both Orlando and Daytona. Stetson University is located in Deland and there's plenty of nearby parks and shopping, both in Deland and area local malls. Restaurants in and around Deland are pretty good, there's a few that are excellent.

(Nope, I don't live in Deland but nearby)

East of Eustis and Mt dora have subdivisions with acreage for horses. The Eustis/Mt.Dora area has lots to offer. It depends on if you need jobs or not. Good jobs are hard to come by.
