Back in the 80's we had a pool. When the kids graduated and moved away, it was a major pain to keep clean (amazing how having lots of people swimming and spashing about keeps the water moving through the filtration system). About a year before we sold the house, I bought a baracuda and I wished we had gotten one years before.

Since then, I still can't convince myself to get another pool as they
are expensive to keep up, more so if you have a pool company doing the maintenance.

Many bug control services to choose from. The screen does not keep ants out of the lanai. The screen is mainly to protect from flying insects and debris. Gators scale (crawl up) fences.

Also, the newer salt chlorine generators corrode the bolts holding down the screen rooms. Many of the bolts that hold ours down that are very close to the water, the head of the bolts have corroded completely off. We are due to have new bolts put in. We had it re-screened (6 panels), so the next job in it is some new bolts...about a $150 job. Next month..... Then I will glob tons of silicone on top to prevent future corrosion

And to add to gators scaling any type fence, they also don't care if the pool is screened if they want to get into the water. They can go right through the screen, so can the bears by the way.

Beautiful. A screen definitely would ruin the view
