Inquiring minds want to know ... When you were a child, what was your career ambition when you grew up? Are you currently working in that profession/field?

When I was 10, I wanted to be a model because they wore such nice clothing. *Strike a pose there's nothing to it*
At age 14, I wanted to be a lawyer because I was fascinated by courtroom drama on TV.
At age 16, I wanted to be a pop star even though windows would often shatter when I would practice.
When I was in college, it took me 2.5 years to even declare a major officially but I did consider psychology. advertising and business (that lasted two weeks). I finally chose Mass Communications as my undergrad.
Although I enjoyed my classes, I eventually decided that mass communications (journalism, public relations, etc...) just wasn't the right fit for moi. I eventually returned back to school to get a masters degree and now work in the helping professions where I finally found my passions!
I was destined to be an eye doctor till I became total. Then my passions switched over to linguistics and acupuncture, and that is still my current goal.
I wanted to join the Navy.
I didn't.
I did work for the Navy later in my adult years.
I still wish I could have a big do-over.
I know the feeling! I wanted to be in the Coast Guard (grew up on the beach), but after high school joined the Army for the bonus money. Big mistake. That led to a series of bad decisions, like marrying my 1st wife 2 weeks after meeting her. But I won't turn this thread into my personal therapy session!
Big lesson - follow your passion, you're probably be happier.
Archaeology. I always wanted to be an Archaeologist since I was about 5 years old. I did become one though I no longer am because of long term health problems. It is still my passion to this day though and I miss it dearly. I still attend weekly lectures with the Oxford University Archaeological Society and volunteer for digs when I can .
I would have loved to study Marine Biology as well though.
Before that I think I wanted to be a vet or a Teddy Bear !!
I know how you all feel! Ophthalmology and optometry are my passions, along with linguistics and acupuncture, but I'm always going to wonder what my life would have been like if I had become an eye doctor. I was asking my eye doctors for old copies of their medical journals by age 10. I loved it so much and was known by most eye doctors in my area by age 14 and also made it into medical journals. I used to have hours-long discussions with my eye doctors. Becoming an eye doctor just felt right. Man, I'm getting that feeling really bad right now, just talking about it!
